Only in Time Will You Understand This is a temporary installation created at Casa Wabi as the culmination of my 6-week residency. The placement of ceramic sculptures with a collection of found objects, each in specific relation to the other create a sequence of formulas that describe pathways of non-linear time. The symbolic ritual objects have an echo of something familiar, almost like they could have had a mystical purpose in an ancient traditional culture. However, they reference my own symbolic language of geometric and symbolic forms that I have developed over many years that are both personal imaginaries and loose interpretations of propositions in quantum physics.

The sculptures are crafted from local clay and cooked a traditional Oaxacan oven using a firing technique that gives the clay a unique coloration of mottled red and black. Both the forms of the works and the diagrams inscribed on their surface tell a story. The delicate sculptures are intermixed with found objects such as seedpods, sticks and coconuts, giving both the sculptures and the natural objects the same importance. The installation forms a collaboration with nature to construct a temporary diagram of timelines flowing forwards and backwards through space.
