CONDENSATIONS

DESCRIPTION

  • Using my own geometry as the starting point, I have mapped out specific points within the interior space of the body, radiating lines outwards from these point into intersecting isosceles triangular forms. Condensation is a term used here to describe the reduction and concentration of form into a condensed point. Each of the paintings show movement towards the central points. The forms are built up using thin layers of powdered quartz or ash, depicting angular reflections and variations of light on raw linen.

Like traditional yantra’s, these paintings can be seen as symbolic meditations with compositions that go beyond aesthetic principles. To see them as purely abstract would be wrong; their symbolism refers to something deeper than the every day worlds of the senses. They convey energy and the dynamic integration of opposites, light and shadow, male and female, manifest and un-manifest.
